Seniors’ residences: the QLP wants to reverse the burden to better protect seniors from cost increases

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, August 30, 2026 – Patrice Léger Bourgoin, Quebec Liberal Party candidate in Saint-Jean, supports his party's commitment to better protect seniors living in private seniors' residences (RPAs) from cost increases.

A Liberal government will put in place:

• An annual cap on increases in rent and services in RPAs;
• A reversal of the burden: beyond the cap, the RPA will have to justify the increase before the TAL before it can be imposed;
• A safeguard so that regulating increases never comes at the expense of the care seniors receive;
• Dedicated support for RPAs that maintain affordable offerings, particularly small residences and those in the regions.

"Our seniors should never have to choose between their residence and their financial security. Reversing the burden puts the protection back on the right side," says Patrice Léger Bourgoin.
