To increase housing supply, the QLP proposes a QST rebate on the construction of new homes

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, August 27, 2026 – Patrice Léger Bourgoin, Quebec Liberal Party candidate in Saint-Jean, supports his party's proposal to rebate the QST on new home construction to increase housing supply.

A Liberal government commits to:

Rebating 36% of the QST paid on a new house or condo, up to $10,000;
Applying the measure to new properties valued up to $500,000;
For plexes, starting the rebate at $10,000 for the owner-occupant, increasing by $5,000 per additional unit up to a maximum of 4 — for a rebate of up to $30,000;
Offering the credit for a renewable 5-year term, applicable to single-family and multigenerational homes, plexes and condos.

"For many Saint-Jean families, this rebate is the difference between renting and owning. And every plex built also means more housing units on the market," says Patrice Léger Bourgoin.
