Diversifying our markets: a strategic necessity in the face of trade tensions with the United States
For immediate release
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, August 28, 2026 – Patrice Léger Bourgoin, Quebec Liberal Party candidate in Saint-Jean, supports his party's strategy to diversify Quebec's export markets.
A Liberal government commits to:
- Setting the goal, over its first mandate, of building new alliances with — among others — our allies in Canada, Europe and the Francophonie, in order to cut by at least 15% the share of our exports going to the United States;
- Organizing reverse trade missions to attract foreign companies and buyers to Quebec, allowing our entrepreneurs to diversify their export markets;
- Helping our companies, through these missions, find new partners — first in Quebec, then in Canada and elsewhere in the world when necessary;
- Eliminating as many trade barriers as possible with the Canadian provinces;
- Providing more flexible support for SMEs that want to join forces and pool resources to conquer foreign markets together, drawing on proven international models;
- Deploying a true economic outreach strategy in the Francophonie to better leverage French as an economic advantage for Quebec.
"Our exporters can't depend on a single customer. Diversifying our markets means protecting local jobs from decisions made in Washington," says Patrice Léger Bourgoin.
